In the town of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, there were only ywo football teams that mattered and they weren’t the Eagles, or the Nittany Lions. Doylestown was home to the greatest high school rivaly in a state that prides itself on hard-hitting gridion epics. There was Central Buck West, captained by senior fullback/linebacker Bryan Buckley. And there was Central Bucks East, led by senior lineman Colby Umbrell.

Bryan and Colby met each other as opponents in a game played on a grass field, but their dreams and devotion to their country led each of them to the conflict in the Middle East. Colby as an Army Ranger and Bryan as a Marine.

Only one made it back to Doylestown, and nothing about them, their families, or their hometown’s connection to football will ever be the same.

This is the compelling chronicle of two outstanding athletes: their lives, the game they loved, and the seperate journeys they took from the football field to the battlefield. But it is also a chronicle of those who helped shape them into the men they became, and of the community that watched and cheered as they grew from game playing boys into fighting men and witnessed a sacrifice never to be forgotten.

On the playing field, they fought one another, on the battle field they fought for their country.

LEST WE FORGET ANOTHER TYPE HALL OF FAME WHEN BASEBALL WENT TO WAR…

Dream derailed - Harry O’Neill grew up with hopes of a Major League career. He fulfilled his goal with the Philadelphia A’s — if for only one inning — before giving his life in service of our country in World War II.
