HAL EPPS DIES AT 90
Hal Epps, outfielder for the l944 Athletics passed away in Texas on August 25th at the age of 90.
His passing leaves just 79 surviving Athletics players. Epps played professional baseball from l934 until l952, reaching the major leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals in l940 and the St. Louis Browns before joining the A’s in l944. He spent l945 and l946 in military service before returning to the Texas League where much of his career took place. The slender outfielder was never big on power but hit .300 for his lifetime minor league batting average and reached that mark a dozen times during his career.
The Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society extends its deepest condolences to the Epps family.
