Down Memory Lane with Gail Hebert

My father took me to my first Philadelphia Athletics game in 1948 and it was well into the 50s before I moved on to to other things.

I was brought up in Richboro, PA and was able to attend all of the home games and many away games during those years. That was a time when you could meet and talk with the players as they entered the park and as they crossed from dressing room to dugout.

Given the time lapse, I don’t remember the exact circumstances, but a friend and I started a fan club for Alex Kellner and also were invited to help out in the Publicity Office. This gave us access to park and players before the park opened. Hence….I had the opportunity to take a great many pictures.

I went on to get my B.S. and M.A. degrees, then spent 5 years working as a Service Club director for the U.S. Army and later the U.S. Air Force in Germany and England. I met and married my husband, who was then an attorney with the USAF, in England. Back in the U.S., I worked as chief copy writer and continuity director for WTIC Radio in Hartford, CT and then in the same capacity at WFAU Radio, In Augusta, ME.

We’re retired now and living in Litchfield, ME. I haven’t seen a baseball game since the 1950s, but fond memories of the A’s still remain.
