SEPTEMBER 19, 1954 Yankees 4 Athletics 2

It is Sunday September 19, 1954 and the Philadelphia Athletics are coming off the field at Connie Mack Stadium (AKA Shibe Park) for their final turn at bat in the bottom of the ninth inning trailing the NY Yankees by a score of 4-2.

It is the last time the Philadelphia Athletics will ever be known in this stadium. Two months later the franchise was moved to Kansas City ,MIssouri ....Visible in this rare photograph are number 29 A's Coach Augie Galan, heading out towards his position in the 3rd base coaches box.at the the bottom of the left side that's Philly favorite Gus Zernial lumbering off for the last time at the Stadium. With his back towards the camera between first & second base is Yankees # 10 soon to be Hall of Famer Phil Rizutto. The head sticking out of the A's third base dugout belongs to know other than Spook Jacobs.

TOTAL ATTENDANCE FOR THE GAME.....1715....DIE HARD ATHLETIC FANS....The Stadium had a seating capacity of 33,000+
that means 32,900 stayed home that day. Wonder what the attendance would be if that game could be replayed in that same historic ball-park today????
