"A's Society Museum acquires
Rare 1950 Banner"
To celebrate his 50th year as manager of the Athletics the team
had everything in "gold". Items such as programs, yearbooks,
decals, uniform patches and lining among other items. However, one
of the rarest tributes to Mack's 50th year was this huge banner
that was one of many placed on display during the entire 1950 season.
This particular banner was on located behind home plate in the loge
section. The Society obtained it from the family of one of the employees
who were responsible to change the banners as they became frayed
and worn. Most were destroyed and only a few are known to exist.
This beautiful framed replica measuring 39"x44" is now
a part of the Society's ever-growing reminder of Connie Mack, his
Athletics and Shibe Park as you enter the Hatboro facility. Our
appreciation goes out to the M&H Custom Framing & Gallery
of Warminster, Pa for their care and treatment of this nostalgic
relic.
