Bill Werber's "Memories of a Ball-Player" Going to the Military

 

Eddie Joost & Bill Werber, teammates on Cincinnatti's 1940 World Series championship team up again 60 years later. Joost has moved to Hawaii and 98 year old Bill Werber is in the process of donating his popular book, "Memories of A Ball-Player to the Military.


Did you know that Bill Werber is the last living member of the mighty 1927 Yankees? Yet, in 1927 he decided to leave the Yankees and return to Duke University to complete his college education," and graduated in 1930 with high honors, then rejoined Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig to restart his major league career with the fabled New York Yankees. He tells it all in this wonderful book headed to are armed forces.

February 12-18 has been designated as "National Salute to Veterans Hospitals Week." In accordance with this tribute to our Veterans the A's Society has made arrangements to deliver a free copy of Memories of a Ball-Player to each Veteran at the Veteran Medical Centers in South Philadelphia, Northeast Philadelphia, Coatsville, PA, Wilmington, DE and are awaiting confirmation for other facilities outside of the USA. The Society working in conjunction with the volunteer services at each of the local area facilities are currently working out the logistics that will include A's Society volunteers delivering hundreds of books during that special week long honor. Watch this site for up to date activity.
