In 1949 The Philadelphia Athletics double play combination of shortstop Eddie Joost and second baseman Pete Suder set a major league record that still stands today of turning over 217 double plays. The ever popular soon to be two time American League batting champion, Ferris Fain particiapted in 194 of the record 217.Fain won his2 batting championships titles in 1931 with a BA of .344 & 1952 .327 BA .Fain was traded to the Chicago White Sox after the 1952 season.
