Virgil stops for a moment to admire the Shibe
Park turnstile and commented "I probably
walked through one of these every time we
came to Shibe Park."
In the period from 1909-1954 over 25 million fans
of the Philadelphia Athletics passed through a turnstile much
the same as this one. Considering that during that same period
we experienced 2 World Wars sandwiched in by a depression,
the Philadelphia Athletics are still Philadelphia's Most Successful
Professional Sports Franchise. (As a humorous aside, that
25 million fans does not include all those fans that sat on
the rooftops along 20th Street.) |
