WWII Vet Shares Memories, Experiences With PPH Residents
A packed house of The Philadelphia Protestant Home residents and
visitors were held spell bound this past May as Tony Zanzinger shared
his military memorabilia collection and experiences as a paratrooper
with the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. His extensive
collection includes articles from both the Allies and the Germans.
Tony parachuted into Normandy prior to the June 6, 1944 invasion,
jumped behind enemy lines in The Netherlands, and fought in the
battle to defend Bastogne. The Division’s final combat operation
was the capture of Hitler’s retreat home at Berchtesgaden.
