Battle of Baseball All-Stars: US Military To Play Delaware Valley
Women's Fast Pitch
Saturday July 4, 2009
It's been a year--last June 19th--since, in a game played at Widener
University in front of Mickey Vernon, Harry Kalas and Mike Scioscia,
the Military Baseball All Stars defeated the Delco Baseball League
All Stars 6 to 3. Mickey and Harry are gone now, but the Military
All Stars will be back. The DelVal Women's Fast Pitch All Stars
have challenged them to a game of fast pitch softball. Being the
good sports that they are, the Military All Stars have accepted
the challenge.
This epic confrontation is scheduled for the July 4th holiday at
Barrall Field in Media, Pa. It is a free event, sponsored by Delaware
County's Brandywine Conference and Visitors' Bureau. Tore Fiore,
executive director of the bureau, states that the mission of this
game is to "Promote the awareness of all Americans in support
of the honorable sacrifices of the men and women in our Armed Forces."
The US Military Team consists of outstanding players selected from
all branches of the armed services. The members pay their own expenses
and participate while off-duty.
Be a part of this genuine small-town patriotic holiday event by
bringing the whole family into Media on the 4th. The opening ceremonies
begin at 4 pm--and remember, it's free! For more information on
the game and how you can help to support the Military All Stars,
