He first became interested in baseball during the early 1940's when the Lancaster Red Roses were in the Interstate League and had an affiliation with Connie Macks Athletics. It was during that period when, George Kell, Nellie Fox, Billy DeMars Joe Astroth to name a few also played for the Red Roses. Barry was a familiar face at over 40 years of the “Stowe (Pa) Old Timers banquets. In 1993 Barry retired from Armstrong World Industries after 42 years of loyal service. He has been married to his wife Naomi for 47 years. Naomi is a retired R.N. from St. Joseph Hospital, Lancaster, Pa. They have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren. When notified that his entry was the winning entry selected by former A’s great Bobby Shantz, Barry stated “ this is the first thing I ever won in my entire life, I am so thrilled and have my sincerest appreciation for Carlton Hodges and the A’s Society.” When he joined the Society he was assigned Society membership number #888. One of the attendees at the jam packed Society Museum in Hatboro at the December 27, 2003 drawing upon hearing Barry’s membership number exclaimed that this was the first time 3 of a kind ever beat a full house” Barry is shown here with Naomi his wife of 47 years.
