FRONT OF POSTCARD

On April 25,1957 twenty two year old David Jordan stood at the corner opposite 21st & Lehigh and snapped this one of a kind photograph of this Philadelphia landmark since 1909. Although the Athletics were almost 3 years removed from their home of 45 years, the Phillies became the only game in town at this site for another 13 years.Shibe Park as it was originally named became Connie Mack Stadium in 1953.Site of 8 World Series, 2 All-Star games, countless other NFL, negro League, college and high school events including a personal visit by President Franklin Delano Roosevely during World War ll. This historic ball-park survived two World Wars and a devasting depression. A wonderful keepsake of baseball when it really was a game.
