On Saturday September 20, 2003 Mickey Vernon's hometown of
Marcus Hook, PA dedicated this tribute to their favorite son.
Located at the entrance to the same field where he played
his sandlot ball not far from his boyhood home. The ballfield
has since been renamed "Mickey Vernon Park." Here

On April 25,1957 twenty two year old David
Jordan stood at the corner opposite 21st & Lehigh and
snapped this one of a kind photograph of this Philadelphia
landmark since 1909. Although the Athletics were almost 3
years removed from their home of 45 years,the Phillies became
the only game in town at this site for another 13 years.Shibe
Park as it was originally named became Connie Mack Stadium
in 1953.Site of 8 World Series, 2 All-Star games, countless
other NFL, negro League, college and high school events including
a personal visit by President Franklin Delano Roosevely during
World War ll. This historic ball-park survived two World Wars
and a devasting depression. A wonderful keepsake of baseball
when it really was a game.

This 1957 photo postcard of Connie Mack Stadium aka
Shibe Park is the first in a series that the Phila A’s Society
plans to produce. The “unique elephant cancellation”
was made by the U.S. Postal Service and were cancelled
by the U.S. Postal Service and issued in a limited
number of only 300 to commemorate the “50th Anniversary
of the Philadelphia Athletics final season in Philadelphia, 1954."
The proceeds from the sale of this limited edition postcard will
benefit the A’s Society Library/Museum in Hatboro, PA. Your
